New Federal laws are bringing changes to Medicaid in 2027, including new application and work requirements for up to 320,000 Maryland Medicaid members.
Find out if these changes impact you. Then, prepare for them so you do not lose your benefits.
What is changing?
Starting Jan. 1, 2027, when you renew your coverage next year, you may need to:
- Show you are working or taking part in other activities (also called work requirements)
- Renew your Medicaid coverage twice a year
In September, Maryland Health Connection sent a letter to enrollees who will need to meet work requirements when they renew their coverage in 2027. If you received a letter, be sure to follow the instructions provided.
What is changing for immigrants?
As of Oct. 1, 2026, some immigrants no longer qualify for Medicaid coverage. This new law applies to adults, but not to children or pregnant people. Visit the Maryland Department of Health’s Eligibility page for more information at health.maryland.gov/mmcp/eligibility.
