Hey kids! Did you know your body and brain work best when you balance screen time with other fun activities? Staring for hours at a tablet or TV screen always makes me feel a little bit like a Halloween zombie. My eyes feel funny, it’s hard to think and I feel grumpy all over.

Why Less Screen Time Is Better

Too much screen time can make it harder to sleep, learn new things and play with friends. Doctors say kids should spend no more than 1 to 2 hours a day on screens for fun.

What Can You Do Instead?

Try these awesome activities to keep from becoming a screen zombie:

  • Get moving! Run, jump, ride your bike or play tag.
  • Read books — They can take you on amazing adventures!
  • Play outside — Build forts, collect rocks or have water balloon fights.
  • Be creative — Draw pictures, build with blocks or make up stories or songs
  • Help at home — Cook with grown-ups or care for pets.

Make a Family Plan

Ask your family to make screen-free times, like during meals or before bed. Watch shows together so you can talk about what you see.

Remember

Screens can be fun and help you learn, but your body needs lots of different activities to grow strong and healthy!

I will be at different events around Maryland with Priority Partners. Check back here to find out where I will be next! Come say ‘Hi” and give me a high-five!
