How to choose a Medicaid MCO in Maryland

In Maryland’s Medicaid program, many members enroll in a Managed Care Organization (MCO). An MCO is a health plan that works with Maryland Medicaid to provide covered services.

When choosing an MCO, consider:

  • Whether your current doctors and hospitals are in the plan’s network
  • The services and specialists you may need
  • Prescription drug coverage and pharmacy access
  • Plan support services, such as case management or care coordination
  • The plan’s customer service and member resources

How to choose

If you are newly eligible for Maryland Medicaid, you may receive information about available MCOs and can choose the one that best fits your needs. If you do not choose one, Maryland may assign one to you.

If you are already in a plan like Priority Partners, you generally stay in that plan unless you change plans during an eligible period or qualify for a special change.
